School Philosophy and Directions

School Mission: We inculcate Social Responsibility and Independent Learning.

Our school mission shows our commitment and focus to develop Cedarians into persons with robust character and a sense of duty and service to the community and nation and into individuals who take ownership of their own learning and go forth to learn, discover and create knowledge.

A View of Holistic Education

The school seeks to appreciate its school history and heritage and leverages on the school’s 2004 to 2007 strategic thrusts “Building Capacity”, “Cultivating Creativity” and “Nurturing Connectivity” to provide a view of holistic education. The work of the school on these three strategic thrusts represents the provision of holistic education to develop pupils holistically in the cognitive, physical, technological, aesthetic, inventive, and social-emotional-moral domains.

A VIEW OF HOLISTIC EDUCATION

Building Capacity

Cultivating Creativity

Nurturing Connectivity

Cognitive: Cognitive development is with the view to help pupils construct a firm educational grounding in the key academic learning areas. This in turn allows them to access choice educational pathways and lifelong learning.

Physical: Physical development develops pupils into robust and healthy individuals with a zest for life.

Technological: Technological development ensures that pupils are able to access the ICT-rich environment of henceforth and harness technology for learning and living.

Aesthetic: Aesthetic development helps nurture interesting persons who think creatively and communicate expressively.

Inventive: Developing inventiveness helps encourage the desire to change or create for betterment; the discipline to think through and follow through; and the mindset for excellence.

Social-Emotional-Moral: Connectivity refers to connecting to self, others, the school, the family, the community, the nation and the world. The shaping of character, the nurturing of leadership and the cultivation of life skills are thus instrumental towards the making of global citizens.

School Vision: The Making of Global Citizens for the 21st Century

With the school vision “The Making of Global Citizens for the 21st Century”, we hold the aspiration of nurturing Cedarians who think globally and act locally and developing them holistically into independent learners, creative thinkers and responsible citizens.

To provide clarity and enhance understanding of the vision, the school has distilled key competencies that global citizens possess and demonstrate, namely respect for diversity, team problem-solving, inventiveness, and service to the community. The school has (re)formulated flagship programmes, key pedagogies and school practices that will imbue these competencies and values in pupils.
