Sports & Health Carnival
In Cedar Primary School, we believe that athletics has many benefits to offer to our students: simple, low cost, exciting, inclusive, yet challenging. Athletics is just as relevant to the child running, jumping and throwing in the playground, as it is to the Olympic medal-winning hero. The simple actions of running, walking, jumping and throwing, form the basis of all sports and we take great pride in promoting athletics.
The aim of the Sports and Health Carnival is in line with our School Motto, Effort Determine Success. Besides having a winning mind-set, students are challenge to cultivate the willingness to do their best. Thus, throughout the period of preparation for the Sports and Health Carnival, every student practises resiliently to prepare themselves during their PE lessons and House Practices regardless of their roles for the event.
The focus of the Sports and Health Carnival is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph, but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered, but to have fought well.
As part of our effort to promote mass participation, we ensure that all students are given opportunities to experience running and speed, jumping for height and distance, and throwing for distance during PE Lessons. During their PE lessons, students develop greater self-awareness as they grow to understand how fast they run, how far or high they jump and how far they throw. As we look at maximizing participation and celebrating efforts, students are allowed to take part in only one of the following events, either an individual or a team event.

SwimSafer Programme
The P3 SwimSafer Programme is a highlight of our school’s Primary 3 Physical Education curriculum experience. Through SwimSafer, students will develop water confidence, understand the principles of water safety, and learn techniques to prevent drowning. In addition, SwimSafer builds our students’ physical and mental robustness and cultivates determination and resilience.
We have specially arranged for the P3 SwimSafer Programme to be conducted throughout the whole of Term 3 during curriculum time. This will enable all P3 students to benefit from the swimming programme. The programme is broken down to six different stages and due to this, the school has ensured that the programme will also cater to the various entry levels of individual students. Below is some information of the different stages that our students may go through.

Sports Exposure Programme
Many studies have shown that early specialization in sports may bring more harm than good to a young athlete. Through exposure to many different kinds of sports, athletes will get to develop a wider range of skills and pick up skills that they will never learn should they specialize early in just one sport. In addition, overtraining and specialization in one sport could potentially lead to injuries.
As such, in Cedar Primary School, we expose our students to as many sports as we can under the Sports Exposure Programme (SEP). Participation in the SEP elective module will help our students sustain their physical and mental robustness and enjoy new healthy lifestyle experiences together. The shared experiences will also foster a greater sense of community and affiliation.
Character & Development Camp
Leadership and Character Development Camp
The P5 Leadership and Character Development Camp is an excellent authentic platform for students to demonstrate leadership qualities, apply conflict management strategies and organisational processes. Through this camp, we hope that students will learn and emulate some of the positive traits and experiences, and apply them in their daily activities.
The camp also seeks to foster a spirit of camaraderie and friendship among the students. In this camp, students are grouped with peers of a different gender and races, thus allowing them to learn to respect diversity and show care and responsibility towards their peers. This camp is also a culmination of the students’ exposure to the Outdoor Education (OE) through their PE lessons. The on-going OE lessons provide the knowledge and experience that students need to hone their leadership knowledge, skills and attitudes through team building and problem-solving activities.
Throughout the camp, the form and subject teachers will be around to learn more about their students and build better rapport with them. They will also develop a consistent language that could be used back in class in their daily lessons. This will enhance the learning environment and experience of the students after the camp.
